JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:          Chief Transportation Lighting Engineer

 

FLSA STATUS:    Exempt

 

SUMMARY:         The Chief Transportation Lighting Engineer is responsible for engineering services for the design of roadway lighting in accordance with the client’s lighting policies and procedures. In addition, this position will be responsible for estimating cost, planning, circuit design, and preparation of plans and special provisions for roadway lighting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the design, review, and quality control effort of various roadway lighting assignments.

  • Prepare roadway lighting reports, cost estimates, and compile quantity calculations.

  • Mentor roadway lighting staff in technical design, modeling, and analyzing roadway lighting components.

  • Prepare contract plans, specifications and cost estimates.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, master’s degree is preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing arterial and freeway lighting projects within the last 10 years.

  • Current Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license is required, or show ability to get within three months of hiring.

  • Experience with designing lighting systems in the lighting project types of Urban Arterial, Streetscape, Roundabout, Underpass, and Partial Interchange.

  • Experience with designing lighting systems in the lighting project types of Continuous Freeway, Complete Interchange, Major Urban Arterial, Tunnel, and Major River Bridge.

  • Must be familiar with computer software including Microsoft Office and BlueBeam.

  • Experience with MicroStation is preferred.

  • Experience in Phase I and Phase II projects with Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and/or Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.

  • Business development and marketing skills is a plus.

  • Ability to interact with employees and customers in a professional manner and with strong communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Detail oriented, professional attitude and reliable.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Self-motivated team player with a customer service orientation.

  • Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office.

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment at the Chicago office.
