William Stermer, PE, Joins TranSmart as Chief Transportation Lighting Engineer
Industry veteran brings more than 25 years of electrical engineering experience to the firm.

TranSmart, Inc. is pleased to welcome William Stermer, PE, who recently came on board as Chief Transportation Lighting Engineer. Bill, a seasoned engineering leader, has successfully provided electrical engineering and project management for numerous, high-profile infrastructure projects throughout the region.
“Bill has tremendous experience that our clients and electrical engineering group will find invaluable,” said Dr. Connie Li, PE, President and CEO of TranSmart. “I am so happy to have him at the helm of TranSmart’s lighting engineering efforts, guiding our project teams and providing technical oversight to ensure TranSmart’s highest standards of quality.”
Bill’s career spans 25 years and encompasses more than 14 years of experience working on the Illinois Tollway’s General Engineering Consulting (GEC) contracts, which included developing the agency’s electrical design standards for roadway lighting and electronic toll collection. He also provided electrical engineering for Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) projects including the Jane Byrne Interchange, the I-55 and Lake Shore Drive Interchange, and the Dan Ryan Expressway Reconstruction.
Bill also has significant experience on Chicago Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) projects, in addition to extensive work for public transit, rail, aviation, and regional municipal clients.

A licensed professional engineer in multiple states, Bill has completed projects for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the Indiana Toll Road Concession Company (ITRCC), and the State of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT).
Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) of North America.
