Chicago's Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Program
PROJECT BACKGROUND
TranSmart is currently providing civil engineering, maintenance of traffic (MOT), and drainage design; and permit and utility coordination support services for the CTA’s Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Program. The Red Line has reached maximum capacity at rush periods, limiting its ability to accommodate the growing passenger demand. To resolve this issue, the northern sections of the Red Line (between the Belmont and Howard stations) and a portion of the Purple Line (between Belmont and Linden stations) are being completely reconstructed through the largest CTA design-build project.
The project includes a complete rebuild of four Red Line stations, including replacing all track and support structures. A new higher-capacity signal and construction of a new flyover bridge for the Brown Line will also be completed. Construction of a grade-separated bypass for the Brown Line at Clark Junction will involve the construction of a fly-over bridge.
