Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) at Church Road Bridge Reconstruction

PROJECT BACKGROUND

TranSmart performed design-upon-request services for the Illinois Tollway, including both concept-level design and preparation of contract plans, specifications, and estimates. As part of the design, TranSmart provided structural engineering services for the replacement Church Road Bridge over I-88 (Reagan Memorial Tollway). Concept-level structural studies included an abbreviated bridge condition report and evaluation of bridge alternatives. The existing 226-foot-long, four-span bridge was replaced with a 270-foot-long, two-span bridge with precast, pre-stressed concrete beam, and included new concrete substructure and approach roadway improvements. The design of the new bridge included provisions for carrying a future bikeway, the profile of the bridge was raised to increase vertical clearance, and the new longer bridge accommodated widening of the Tollway under the bridge with an additional lane in each direction.
